The Basegrip attaches directly to the Steam Controller's rear grips via a secure clip mechanism. When paired with Mechanism's phone mount, users can clip their phone above the controller and use Steam Link (Valve's streaming app) to play PC games remotely. The Basegrip also snaps into Mechanism's existing mounts for desks, wall hooks, and the popular Ikea Skadis pegboard – offering near-universal placement.
Pricing for the Basegrip has not been disclosed, but Mechanism's phone mount retails for $24.99. The company confirms first-party accessories, including a dedicated carrying case, will follow in early 2023.

Valve's Steam Controller, first announced in 2019, features dual trackpads, haptic feedback, and customizable buttons. Its unique shape has long frustrated third-party mount makers. Mechanism – known for its modular mounting systems for Nintendo Switch and Xbox controllers – secured early access to the Steam Controller's design files under a formal partnership with Valve.
“Mechanism's ability to design around our controller's ergonomics impressed us,” said a Valve spokesperson in an email statement. “Their early access agreement ensures that players have quality mounting options from day one.” The strategy mirrors Valve's approach with the Steam Deck, where it pre-approved dozens of accessories before launch.

The simultaneous launch of a premium mount signals that Valve expects heavy mobile and remote-play use for the Steam Controller. Analysts predict the Basegrip could open up new use cases: couch co-op using a phone as a second screen, or dedicated wall-mounted stations for VR-free PC gaming.
